An active exploration of the discovery of telocytes and their vital role in oral biology. The book reveals the unique characteristics of these interstitial cells, explaining their complex networks and functions within the oral cavity. It shares key facts about how telocytes help maintain tissue balance, enable intercellular communication, and promote regeneration in tissues such as the salivary glands, periodontium, and dental pulp. Designed for researchers, clinicians, and students in dentistry, oral biology, and regenerative medicine, this book connects basic science with clinical practice. It examines the therapeutic potential of telocytes, showing how these cells could revolutionize regenerative medicine and lead to new approaches for treating oral diseases. This essential guide provides readers with a thorough understanding of this exciting and rapidly growing field, empowering them to explore the future of oral healthcare.

Mihnea Ioan Nicolescu holds dual degrees in Dentistry and Medicine, as well as a Specialist Degree in Oral-Maxillo-Facial Surgery. Currently, he is an Associate Professor and head of the Histology Division at the Faculty of Dentistry, “Carol Davila” University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Bucharest, Romania. He also works as a scientific researcher at the “Victor Babeș” National Institute of Pathology, Romania and as a Visiting Lecturer at King’s College London, UK, where he graduated at the top of his class with an MSc in Regenerative Dentistry. A pioneer in his field, he was part of the research team that discovered and characterized a new human interstitial cell type—the Telocyte. His publication record includes over 50 articles and book chapters. His primary research interests involve understanding the regenerative mechanisms of salivary gland stem cells and developing clinical applications based on this knowledge. Additionally, he established Romania’s first Regenerative Dentistry module for dental students.
