This book presents the latest research and development in intelligent technologies that benefit society. AI technology is overwhelming in its impact on both social and natural science. The book reports a number of studies that contribute to the theory and practice of AI and relevant technologies. The theory seeks to improve the low ability of maths computing and reasoning through a new mechanism, and a novel knowledge enhancement through a pre-trained language model. In the book, interdisciplinary research is applied to smart cities, smart education, intelligent communication systems, traffic sign detection, AI in multilingual systems, AI in healthcare in diabetic retinopathy detection, smart learning in law, and fault diagnosis and detection in mechanical engineering.

Professor Joan Lu is a professor in Computer Science. Her extensive research encompasses information access, data retrieval and visualization, security, AI-based cross-disciplinary applications, mobile learning, AI-powered education, and Internet computing, among other areas. She has published books and academic articles on AI-based applications and big data for healthcare, e.g. cancer research. She has also been awarded several EU grants in multidisciplinary research, e.g. for next generation student response systems. She has been appointed by the UK Royal Society as a member of the international exchange committee, and appointed as a visiting professor by international and UK universities. She is an approved Research Supervisor by the UKCGE (UK Council of Postgraduate Education). She is a fellow of the UK Higher Education Academy and a member of the British Computer Society (BCS).

Dr Qiang Xu is an expert in computational modelling in multiple disciplines. His expertise in computational modelling and data analysis for multiple disciplinary applications contribute to the technical precision of our platform, particularly in optimizing data processing workflows, and deep learning neurone networks, etc. This is evidenced by his publications in both academic books and journal articles. He is the director of study for a number of successful PhD students within his research team. Most of them are currently employed in academic institutes. He is a fellow of the British Higher Education Academy.
