Storytelling is a compelling human act and in a digitised and multipolar world the picture book as an expression of national identity is invaluable. As the number of quality children’s picture books translated grows, the sharing of these artefacts has potential to influence future relationships and the growth of shared meanings across borders. Picture books available in Australia and China are explored in this book with aspects of experience examined in themed chapters. The picture book is a staple of early childhood experience from the home, the preschool and childcare centre as well as libraries. Books are available at supermarkets, online (including children’s television and YouTube) and bookshops. The book is aimed at a diverse audience of early childhood and literature students and scholars, teachers, librarians, parents and education policy makers.
