How do Tolkien’s trolls speak in Romanian? Do Jon Snow and Ned Stark preserve their specific speech patterns in a Romanian target text? Is Hannibal Lecter as scary in Romanian as he is in English? From dilemmas regarding the rendering of Russian or medieval Valencian poetry into Romanian to identifying strategies of mediating French comics and Joycean prose to a Romanian readership, the present volume proposes a collection of articles that investigates the role of the translator as negotiator of meaning and mediator between cultures, rethinking the concept of (in)visibility through carefully selected and convincingly analysed snippets of translated texts.
