Forensic Chemistry

Marcelo Firmino de Oliveira has a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from the Faculty of Philosophy, Sciences and Letters at Ribeirão Preto (FFCLRP) – University of São Paulo, Brazil (1996). He is also licensed in chemistry at FFCLRP (1998), and holds a bachelor’s in industrial chemistry at FFCLRP (1998). In 1999, he concluded his master’s in science – chemistry at FFCLRP. He completed his PhD in analytical chemistry in 2004 at the age of 30 years from São Paulo State University – Institute of Chemistry, Brazil. He actuated as a criminal expert at Superintendence of Technical-Scientific Police of São Paulo State from 2002 to 2007. He is a professor in exclusive dedication at the Department of Chemistry – Faculty of Philosophy, Sciences and Letters at Ribeirão Preto. In 2014, he performed his postdoctoral in forensic chemistry at Florida International University, USA. In 2019, he performed his short-term internship in entrepreneurial leadership and innovation at Babson College, USA. He has experience in chemistry with emphasis on electroanalysis, acting on the following topics: forensic chemistry, chemically modified electrodes and entrepreneurship in chemistry. He has published 3 books, deposited 8 patents and published about 100 papers in reputed journals. His research group – GEEQFor – works with electrochemical analysis and the development of new sensors for crime scene analysis.
