René M Castelein, MD, PhD is Emeritus Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at the University Medical Center Utrecht, the Netherlands. His research focuses on etiology of idiopathic scoliosis. He has been visiting professor at many institutions and was the SRS (Scoliosis Research Society) Harrington Lecturer in 2019 on the topic: ‘Dropping the “I” in AIS, what will it Take’? He is the Editor-in-Chief of Spine Deformity Journal.

John Francis Sarwark MD is Professor in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, USA and has held the Martha Washington Endowed Chair at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago, USA. He is the former Division Head of Pediatric Orthopaedic Surgery at Lurie Children’s Hospital, USA and has dedicated his career to medical education and ongoing research in pediatric orthopaedics, with a particular focus on outcomes in complex pediatric spine surgery.
