This book confronts a question rarely addressed in Orthodox theology: what becomes of the animals we love after death? Drawing on the writings of the Church Fathers and the conceptual language of classical Trinitarian and Christological debates, the book argues that Orthodox theology possesses the tools to speak credibly about the immortality of animals. Without intellectual over-reach or cliched sentimental consolation, it examines the issue with philosophical and theological rigour. Both intellectually demanding and pastorally sensitive, it invites readers into an overdue conversation.

Born in the former USSR, Natalia Doran was educated at Moscow University of Linguistics, Russia. A private student of philosophy and theology, she specialises in ontology, ethics, and integrated theology—sometimes called “animal theology.” Natalia lives in London, UK, and serves on the governing board of the national animal protection organisation Animal Aid. She is also the founder and director of Urban Squirrels, a wildlife rescue and advocacy unit.

Natalia has written widely on theology, ethics, and conservation, with articles in The Wheel, Public Orthodoxy, and several animal-protection journals, as well as chapters in Climate Crisis and Sustainable Creaturely Care and Ex Patribus Lux. She has presented papers at international theological conferences including IOTA (International Orthodox Theological Association), the European Academy of Religion, and the St John Chrysostom Orthodox Research Group, and is a regular speaker at animal charity events.
This is her first monograph.
