Fire and explosions pose serious risks to structures, especially offshore platforms, industrial facilities, and petrochemical plants. This book provides a practical and technical guide for engineers, researchers, and safety professionals seeking to design resilient structures.
Covering fire chemistry, explosion characteristics, thermal-structural analysis, and fire protection strategies, this book bridges the gap between theory and real-world application. It introduces methodologies such as FEED frameworks, fire scenario modeling, and sequential thermal-structural analysis to help professionals assess risks and enhance structural safety.
Designed for structural engineers, fire safety consultants, and professionals in the offshore industry, this book provides essential knowledge and tools to mitigate fire and blast hazards. With case studies, best practices, and design insights, it serves as a crucial reference for those aiming to protect lives and assets in high-risk environments.

Dr Srinivasan Chandrasekaran is a Professor with Higher Academic Grade at the Department of Ocean Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IITM). He specializes in offshore structural engineering focused on dynamic analysis under special loads, including fire and explosion. With over 30 years of academic and research experience, he has contributed significantly to seismic evaluation, risk assessment, and response control of offshore and civil structures. He has authored 23 textbooks and published 105 journal papers in peer-reviewed journals. His research has led to technology transfers and 16 patents, including wave energy converters and functionally graded materials.

Dr Pradeepa is a post-doctoral equivalent fellow at the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IITM), specializing in structural and ocean engineering. She earned her PhD in Ocean Engineering from IIT Madras, following a Master of Engineering in Structural Engineering and a Bachelor of Engineering in Civil Engineering. She has submitted three manuscripts, and has presented her research at international conferences. With extensive teaching and research experience, she has worked as a Project Assistant (Research) at the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) Structural Engineering Research Lab, Chennai, India (Dec 2018 – Mar 2020).
