  • "Along the way, the book becomes a powerful meditation on love, legacy, beauty, and the universal threads that bind us. A profound song to life, culture, and tenderness as strength."
    - Elian Appert Former High Civil Servant, French Minsitry of Finance & Economy
  • "This book stands as a radiant testament to intellectual elegance and cultural richness. It powerfully reminds us that Central Asia has always been a crossroads of global thought—and, with roots in Samarkand, this family embodies a tradition of ideas that are not only conceived at the center, but continue to evolve and resonate far beyond it."
    - Prof Akmal Akhatov Vice Rector, Samarkand State University, Uzbekistan
  • "an inspiring example of how one woman became an academic pioneer […] a call to arms for us all to weave new creative tapestries in our own lives"
    - Gillian Tett, Provost, Kings College, Cambridge, UK
  • "This book is an account of a unique family whose generations have witnessed and shaped extraordinary accomplishments. The writing is both so magical and truly evocative that, once started, I could not put down this majestic symphony of a book."
    - Michael Stinton MA (Oxon) LRAM, ARCM Director of Music, New College School, Oxford, United Kingdom
  • "I’d recommend this to anyone who wants [a] memoir that does more than recount what happened. This one makes meaning the way music does, through return, resonance, and what’s left ringing after the page ends."
    - Daniel Veniot, Reader and Political Scientist
  • "An amazing book that uncovers the story of an exceptional woman, Munira Shahidi, daughter of a musician, Zeodullo Shahidi who had been honoured as the 'Father of Tajik Music' at the turn of the century- but this book is anything but just a biographical narrative. It is a journey of a nation seen through the prism of a family - the Shahidi family."
    - Nandini Battacharya, PhD, Associate Professor of History, Calcutta Girls’ College, Kolkata, India
