This volume offers the first comprehensive, multidisciplinary examination of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) on the occasion of its 25th anniversary. Bringing together leading scholars and practitioners from Africa, China, and beyond, the book situates FOCAC within the broader trajectory of China-Africa relations, from historical ties and liberation-era solidarity to today’s expansive economic, diplomatic, and cultural engagement. Contributors explore the forum’s institutional evolution, achievements, and challenges across key sectors including trade, infrastructure, health, security, and digital development.

Distinctive in its inclusion of both African and Chinese perspectives, the volume moves beyond one-sided or overly simplistic narratives that often dominate Western discourse, instead foregrounding the complexity, agency, and mutual interests that shape China-Africa cooperation. Combining historical depth, interdisciplinary analysis, and forward-looking insights, the book provides a timely reflection on FOCAC’s impact and its implications for South-South cooperation, multipolarity, and the future of global governance.

Essential reading for scholars, policymakers, and practitioners, this book is a critical resource for understanding one of the most consequential partnerships of the 21st century.
