The past four decades have witnessed hundreds of books on Helicobacter pylori. This new book is unique in presenting the history, current knowledge and state of epidemiology, pathology, diagnosis and treatment of the most prevalent infection in the world. One distinctive feature of the text is the presentation of the data in a simple discursive form instead of using sophisticated statistical terms.
In the spirit of evidence-based medicine, the main body of the book is based on the most recent, high-quality systematic reviews, meta-analyses and international guidelines. Numerical data is presented in a simple percentile manner, using an easy-to-understand, five-scale grading system. In some places, statements from the guidelines are contrasted with the personal opinions of the author, the differences being obvious. Each chapter is exhaustively referenced with publications from all over the world, underpinning the global nature of Helicobacter pylori infection and the science generated by its discovery. A detailed information for patients is inserted at the end of chapters in plain language. The book will address students, PhD holders, practitioners, family physicians, clinicians and even Helicobacter researchers, and of course, patients, whether infected or not. Experts may delve into it too, though they may not agree with its content.
