This book is aimed at Chemistry students interested in working in the forensic field, as well as professionals who already work with chemical tests applied to Law. Unlike most works that focus exclusively on criminal investigations, this volume broadens the scope of forensic chemistry by exploring its application in other legal spheres, such as civil and labor. Over the course of ten chapters, real cases are presented and modern analytical techniques with great potential for the forensic context are discussed. Marcelo Firmino de Oliveira has a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from the Faculty of Philosophy, Sciences and Letters at Ribeirão Preto (FFCLRP) – University of São Paulo, Brazil (1996). He is also licensed in chemistry at FFCLRP (1998), and holds a bachelor’s in industrial chemistry at FFCLRP (1998). In 1999, he concluded his master’s in science – chemistry at FFCLRP. He completed his PhD in analytical chemistry in 2004 at the age of 30 years from São Paulo State University – Institute of Chemistry, Brazil. He actuated as a criminal expert at Superintendence of Technical-Scientific Police of São Paulo State from 2002 to 2007. He is a professor in exclusive dedication at the Department of Chemistry – Faculty of Philosophy, Sciences and Letters at Ribeirão Preto. In 2014, he performed his postdoctoral in forensic chemistry at Florida International University, USA. In 2019, he performed his short-term internship in entrepreneurial leadership and innovation at Babson College, USA. He has experience in chemistry with emphasis on electroanalysis, acting on the following topics: forensic chemistry, chemically modified electrodes and entrepreneurship in chemistry. He has published 3 books, deposited 8 patents and published about 100 papers in reputed journals. His research group – GEEQFor – works with electrochemical analysis and the development of new sensors for crime scene analysis.
