This genre-blending collection of personal essays, from a self-made inventor and polymer chemist, takes both science buffs and historians alike behind the scenes and alongside the lab benches of Cold War defense development, aerospace engineering, and entrepreneurial biomedicine. A rare combination of heart and science, the author’s writing demonstrates what happens when life’s curiosities guide one’s path.

From his childhood basement laboratory in Brooklyn, New York, to the deserts of California, the author reveals his greatest inventions and “Eureka!” moments, culminating in his lasting legacy: I-Sorbe, a revolutionary controlled-released iodophor that harnesses iodine’s antimicrobial power with superabsorbent starch polymers, technology with monumental worldwide health impacts.

Touching on polymer science, materials science, Cold War technology, and space exploration, this chronological collection of the author’s personal essays offers an unprecedented glimpse into an inventor’s personal life, the history he witnessed, and the technical achievements that emerged from seven decades of relentless curiosity.

Solomon Rosenblatt is a polymer chemist and chemical engineer with over seventy years of industry experience. Born in Brooklyn, New York in 1929, just months before the stock market crash, he came of age during World War II and was educated at City College of New York (USA) under its Free Tuition Policy.

After graduation, Rosenblatt worked as a materials chemist for New York City before being selected for the Top Secret Navy Polaris Project and later joining the Apollo Space Program to improve fuel cell efficiency. His groundbreaking work in naval defense, aerospace engineering, materials science, and healthcare led to the invention of Zitex®, Merocel Sponges, IoPlex, IoWipe, and I-Sorbe—technologies that have improved healthcare outcomes for millions worldwide.

At 95, Rosenblatt began writing to chronicle the technological advancements, people, and places he witnessed firsthand during his remarkable seven-decade career. This is his first book.
